Are you asking, “are public adjusters worth it?” It’s a good question because public adjusters charge fees. Because I am a public adjuster, you might feel that my opinion is biased. So, instead of giving you my opinion as to are public adjusters worth it, the best thing for me to do is look at the claims that I have settled and compare those numbers to the settlement amounts that were initially offered or paid by the insurance carriers. Moreover, there is a very good study that your insurance company would rather you not know from the Office of Program Policy Analysis & Government Accountability (OPPOGA) which states:
“For non-catastrophe claims, policyholders who
used public adjusters received an estimated $9,379
on their claim, compared to $1,391 for those
policyholders that did not use a public adjuster
(a difference of 574%). “ (PAGE 8)
On Average, my settlements are SIX times higher than the insurance company offers.
In virtually all cases, when the insurance company has made settlement offers to my clients, I have been able to get the insurance company to pay on average of six times more. There are probably a few reasons why this happens, but for the sake of making this simple, let’s just talk about the most obvious, and without badmouthing the good people in the industry.
One reason why this happens is that the insurance carrier sends one of their adjusters to a property and the adjuster who comes out simply writes an estimate of damages that is incorrect. Occasionally it is lack of experience, but sometimes it is not his fault at all. For example, sometimes the insurance company adjuster that comes to your house is overloaded with work and simply does not have the time to be thorough. Since he is given several cases a day, he is swamped with estimates, which causes him to work too fast and make mistakes. Being thorough takes time and the adjusters who are assigned these claims, often times don’t have enough time.
